About Adirondack Operation Santa Claus

On Thanksgiving Eve 1974, an effort was undertaken to raise funds for underprivileged area children in the form of a 50 mile walk, with pledges initially collected by just one Hudson Falls school teacher.

The walk raised a modest amount of money in relation to the need at the time, but it also warmed the hearts of area residents and businesses, bringing attention to the needs of their neighbors.

Over time, the walk became longer and the money pledged became significant, surpassing annual collections of over $15000 within eight years. In 2021, Operation Santa Claus raised over $278000 through donations.

Working with local school districts and service providers to identify those in need, nearly 2500 children receive gifts of food and clothing during the holiday season through our efforts each year.
